AD&D Session 69 - Rust in the Mithril Shaft

Answering the Iron Shepherds’ condition for safe passage south, the party descended into an Uthodurn mithril mine to deal with the “vermin” that had spilled from a deep central shaft. Inside, they were swarmed by a pack of rust monsters—roughly ten by Koro’s count. In the melee one Shepherd went down and the other broke, but Koro halted the rout, stabilized the fallen, and hauled both back toward safety while the group finished the fight. With the nest cleared, the party brought a rust-monster specimen up as proof and returned to the guardpost, where the dwarf Tunga issued a writ directing them to collect proper payment at the garrison. The result: all allies alive, infestation neutralized, and the Shepherds’ goodwill—and the agreed southbound route—secured following the previous day’s arrangement about the mine problem.
