AD&D Session 70 - A Quiet Exit, a Scholar’s Entrance

8th of Duscar, 835 PD
The party returned to their inn in Uthodurn expecting Reeves, but he never came. Koro stopped by the temple where she was lodging and found a bundle left for her: Reeves’s old Iron Shepherds uniform and insignia, with a note implying he had left for good. That evening, while Whisper and Bibi were out walking, a piercing scream drew them to an elven home cordoned off by city guards. They waited as a shrouded body was carried out—apparently a murder—before moving on without answers.

Marcus Jones, a grey-bearded diviner newly arrived in the city, overheard the group discussing an unidentified undead and offered his expertise, suspecting a banshee. In the same conversation he learned they were hunting a stolen mithril dagger or related artifact some intended to destroy; Marcus argued against destroying any such magic before its nature and options were properly understood. Before following new leads, Koro performed a funeral rite and briefly used magic to speak with the deceased, but the few questions she managed to ask yielded little. The party split tasks—sending Zefran to inquire after a Cobalt Soul collection while the rest consulted the city guard about a list of recent deaths copied from the temple register. The guards heard them out, but Koro’s blunt manner strained the exchange even as they agreed to take the concern seriously.
