The confrontation in the Truscan estate’s laboratory erupted into a battle when the two alchemists revealed themselves to be spellcasters. The party managed to bring one of them down, but the other escaped the chamber and disappeared into the fighting that had spread into the manor’s entrance hall.

Following in pursuit, the group found the hall consumed by the clash between the estate’s defenders and the invading rebels. The main staircase offered no clear passage, and several lesser vampires descended upon them before they could force their way through.

Enikas used his enchanted stone, whose light carried the power of sunlight, to hold the undead at bay and give the others room to advance. Koro attempted to drive the vampires back with divine power, but her turning failed to affect them. Instead, Serene manipulated the surrounding water while the others exploited the creatures’ natural weaknesses, gradually breaking through their resistance.

Though the party suffered several wounds, they destroyed the vampires blocking their path and fought their way onto the staircase. Their progress had carried them only as far as the first steps, however. More defenders still stood between them and the upper floor, where Lord Truscan awaited.
