Having fought their way through the Truscan estate’s entrance hall and onto the upper floor, the party pushed past the remaining fighting rather than becoming further entangled in the broader siege. Three corridors stretched ahead of them, none obviously guarded or marked as more important than the others. With little else to distinguish their options, they chose the passage ending at the most imposing door.

Unable to quickly perform a ritual to detect magic, Serene instead sent a small flow of water down the corridor with Shape Water, hoping it might reveal any hidden dangers. The precaution immediately paid off when an audible click sounded from ahead. Whisper moved forward to investigate and located a mechanical trap, though her attempt to disable it went poorly. While examining one of the doors, she triggered the mechanism and was struck by poisoned needles.

The corridor held another surprise. The rug beneath Whisper suddenly animated and attempted to wrap around and smother her. The party fought the creature off before it could succeed, though the struggle briefly brought Koro down. Enikas quickly restored her with his magic, allowing the group to continue.

Beyond the first door they found what appeared to be Lord Truscan’s private chambers. The room contained his coffin, but the vampire himself was nowhere to be seen. Unwilling to leave such an obvious refuge intact, the party set the coffin ablaze and threw it from a window before returning to the corridor.

The door opposite the chambers led into a study—and there, seated behind the desk, they finally found Lord Truscan himself. A fierce battle followed. Enikas came dangerously close to death during the fighting, but the party managed to overwhelm the vampire and ultimately destroy him, apparently for good.

By the time the battle ended, the sounds of fighting from the estate’s entrance hall had largely faded. When the party announced that Lord Truscan appeared to be dead, cheers erupted from the rebels below. After weeks of gathering allies, curing the vampiric infection and marching on Daestok, the uprising had seemingly achieved its central objective: the vampire lord who had seized control of the town was finally gone.
