The Broken South is an island off the south coast of Windren Isle which was originally part of the mainland, but separated after a failed magical ritual that also destroyed the then capital of the Windren Magical Council. Capital of the Broken South is River's End ruled by Admiral Lenira Riverton. Politically the Broken South is its own independent nation that is part of the Windren Nation Alliance and has therefore sworn to abide by the laws and regulations of the Alliance Council. The nations coat of arms shows two masts with full sails.
The Broken South's navy and shipyards are the most sophisticated in the Windren Isles, which led to the nation being responsible for safeguarding portals and the waters surrounding the alliance. Agriculture is the islands second industrial focus, and since it has the most fertile land in the alliance it also supplies the mainland. Despite their navy and foods export the majority of the Broken South's trade is done through the Trade Confederacy.
Given its captial's position as the first harbour ships from Faerûn land at, the Broken South also plays a critical role in external politics and therefore houses embassies from all other alliance members and many representatives from its eastern neighbours.
