DnD à la Sam Session 2
Ropes and Statues
"A strange humanoid statue in a hole in the middle of the woods. And it also turned out to be wizard turned to stone. Why or what turned him into stone; who knows, who even cares at this point...
We struggled managed to lift the strange statue out of the cave, hole, hovel, whatever it was, but our dwarven companion still insisted on exploring the rest of the tunnels. I hesitated at first, but followed,
despite the fact that I already exhausted my abilities in the fights before. I wouldn't have been able to lift the statue onto the cart on my own anyway.
As I expected, the tunnels were empty and an utter waste of time. The dwarf apparently also managed to step onto some kind of magic trap and lost his bearings for a moment or two. The walls were also covered in strange spirals, which served no apparent purpose or had any magical auras surrounding them. Probably just some strange goblin or kobold behaviour.
After beeing done wasting our time crawling around in dirt holes, we finally lifted the statue in cart and started to head back to the crossing were we met the group of hunters before, only to find them gone. The only lead we had at this point, was the town I came from; Mawi. Mawi is a small settlement between Tilverton Scar and Hillsfar, mostly made up of farms and smaller huts. After securing lodgings for the night, and explaining to our tree loving elven companion how society and towns work, we asked around town for our missing hunters and/or prisoner. We found our way to a town guard, Derek, who told us of a local mage who's description fitted the statue and directed us to their house. He also described the mage as rather erratic and strange, which only confirmed my suspicions after we met him on the cart, in a cage, earlier.
Arriving at the mage's house, we searched it and found it pretty much empty. The only thing of value was a scroll containing a spell or ritual. The spell, after having cast it myself,
was able to remove the petrifying effect on the statue, and reveal it to be the prisoner, local town mage and owner of the house we were at. After returning to human form,
the mage invited us in and acted as if nothing happened and everything's normal. At this point I had enough of this charade and wanted to leave,
but I was dragged into the house asked to stay by our lovely dragonborn companion. The mage reluctantly paid us our promised reward,
100 gold pieces each, and even asked us for more help in other matters. He told us of an endagered settlement to the north, where people are apparently dying and need our help. Some kind of evil power or entity, or multiple,
is reemerging in the area and threatens the peace of the land. Dangers from below, the Underdark, want to conquer the Dales and apparently we are suited to fight them back.
If you asked me, that mage is insane and parts of his brain are still stone. More delays in my travels might cost Kalindra some profit, and in turn, myself another favour. This whole job better be worth it. I'm not a fighter to begin with and getting myself killed won't help anyone. I don't even want to think of how Raylen reacts when he learned of my death."
