AD&D Session 17 - A Perilous Encounter: Dangers and Disagreements in Rexxentrum's Depths

26th of Brussendar 835 PD
The adventuring party, having faced myriad dangers and moral quandaries, finds themselves yet again at the crossroads of peril and ethical decision-making beneath the streets of Rexxentrum. Our tale begins as the party, opting for caution, decides against engaging with a dormant automaton, retreating from the precarious driftwood bridges to seek safer passage. Their detour leads them to a cultivation area, a hidden trove of mushrooms likely tended by the wererats they previously encountered, hinting at the diverse underground ecosystem.
The labyrinthine sewers, a testament to the city's sprawling underbelly, soon present a new challenge: a gelatinous cube. This semi-transparent menace, nearly a mishap for the unsuspecting Bibi, prompts a debate on the value of life, regardless of its form, spearheaded by Koro's identification and Serra's plea for non-violence. Rico, however, falls victim to the cube's acidic embrace, sparking a chaotic rescue that leaves him and others worse for wear.
The incident ignites a fiery discussion among the party members, revolving around duty, necessity, and the ethics of killing creatures deemed mindless or malevolent. Serra, frustrated by Koro's insinuations and the party's seeming disregard for the principles she holds dear, parts from the group in a huff, a symbol of the tension that threats to fracture their camaraderie.
Upon emerging from the sewers, the stench of their ordeal precedes them, drawing the attention of a guard who, after a brief interaction, directs them to the nearest bathhouse. Koro's discomfort with public exposure is alleviated by Whisper's ingenious use of magical darkness, allowing for a semblance of privacy amid communal cleansing.
