A fellowship after slaying a giant bear in the woods

Summary

On the 23rd of Brussendar 835 PD, the adventuring party, after some deliberation, decided to have Serra return with Rico to the farm where a beast had been terrorizing cattle. Given the approach of nightfall and adverse weather conditions, the group opted to wait until morning, hoping the creature would reveal itself. The farmer had secured his cattle, minimizing the immediate risk of another attack.

The night proved challenging; a storm brought rain and wind, leading Whisper to abandon her watch early. Koro persisted until the late night forced her retreat. By morning, despite the muddy conditions, Serra discovered new tracks. Following these into the nearby woods, Koro employed a "locate object" spell to find a cow cadaver, indicating they were on the right path.

Proceeding with caution, Whisper led the group towards a clearing where evidence of an owlbear's presence was found, including feathers and a makeshift den among the trees. As they approached, the owlbear attacked, surprising Bibi into releasing a bolt of eldritch magic. Attempts to communicate with the creature magically by Serra and Bibi failed, leaving the party no choice but to engage in combat.

Ultimately, the owlbear was slain. Serra, with intentions of honoring the majestic beast, attempted to harvest useful materials but only managed to collect feathers, realizing her skills in skinning and tanning were lacking. The encounter left the group questioning whether they had eliminated the correct threat or if the death of this owlbear was in vain.
