After choosing one of the four passages beyond the underground lake, the party continued leading the Daestok refugees through the Underdark. The tunnel wound through the rock until it ended at an ornate, temple-like wall dedicated to an ancient god associated with serpents and poison, apparently Zehir.

Draxan regarded the sealed entrance less as a warning than a challenge. When brute force failed to move the door, he invoked Kord and tried again, this time managing to force it open. Beyond lay a vast, dark temple hall buried beneath centuries of dust. Carvings and statues depicted the serpentine deity, while the far side opened onto a view of yet more of the Underdark.

Enikas spent some time examining the surviving inscriptions and sermons. Among them were references to a weapon belonging to the god's betrayer, though a promising statue depicting the relic proved to be nothing more than stone. With little else of immediate value to be found, the group located another exit and resumed the journey.

After further hours spent navigating narrow natural tunnels, exhaustion finally caught up with the travellers. The party found a broader stretch of cavern large enough to accommodate the refugees and stopped there to rest.

The following day brought the first sign that their subterranean journey might finally be nearing its end. Dim daylight began filtering through cracks in the cavern ceiling, growing stronger as the group continued onward.

Eventually they discovered a rope lift leading towards the surface. The party began ferrying the refugees upward, but the evacuation was interrupted by voices speaking Undercommon somewhere below. Moments later, a group of drow attacked, turning what had seemed like the final stretch towards daylight into another confrontation beneath the earth.
